SOUTH BEND—Today, Democrat Pete Buttigieg announced former Indiana Congressman John Brademas as his campaign’s honorary chairman.
Brademas released the following statement from his office in New York, where he is president emeritus of New York University:
"I am very pleased to serve as an honorary chair of Pete Buttigieg's campaign for Mayor of South Bend. I came to know Pete during his race for State Treasurer and was impressed by his character, commitment and determination. Pete's background -- as a student at Harvard and Oxford; as an officer in the Naval Reserves; and his work in the private sector -- has given him a breadth of experience that will serve the people of South Bend well. I know he will be a dedicated public servant for my fellow Hoosiers."
Brademas was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1959 to 1981.
“Growing up in South Bend, I was always inspired by the legacy of Congressman Brademas’s intellect, leadership, and accomplishments,” said Buttigieg. “His confidence in my ability to serve the people of my hometown is truly humbling and I’m very honored to have his support.”
